What are your candles made from?

Our candles are hand-poured using premium 100% plant-based soy wax, high-quality fragrance oils without phalates, and cotton wicks for a clean, long-lasting burn.

Why is my candle tunneling?

Tunneling occurs when a candle isn't allowed to melt completely across the top during the first burn. Always allow a full melt pool to form before extinguishing.

Why is there frosting on my soy candle?

Frosting is a natural characteristic of soy wax and does not affect the performance or quality of your candle.

Why does my candle look different from previous purchases?

Because our candles are hand-poured in small batches, slight variations in appearance may occur. Each candle is uniquely crafted.

How much of my purchase supports animal rescue?

The Salty Dog Candle Company donates $2 from every candle sold to our featured Rescue of the Quarter.

Do you offer local delivery?

Yes! Local delivery is available in “The Heights” area of Tampa (Riverside Heights, Seminole Heights, and Tampa Heights). Select local delivery at checkout.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are typically processed within 2-5 business days and shipped via USPS or UPS. Tracking information will be provided once your order ships.

Do you accept returns?

Due to the nature of our products, we do not accept returns on used candles. If your order arrives damaged, please contact us within 7 days of delivery and we'll make it right.

Are your candles pet-friendly?

While our candles are made with high-quality ingredients, we recommend burning candles in well-ventilated areas and keeping them out of reach of pets.

Candle Care:

Before Lighting

  • Your wick is already trimmed. After the first burn, trim your wick to 1/4 inch, and before each time you burn your candle.

  • Place your candle on a heat-resistant surface.

  • Keep away from drafts, fans, open windows, children, and pets.

First Burn Matters

The first burn helps prevent tunneling.

  • Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the jar.

  • This usually takes 2-4 hours depending on candle size.

  • Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

During Use

  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.

  • If the flame becomes too large, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and relight.

  • Do not move a candle while the wax is melted.

When to Stop Burning

  • Discontinue use when 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.

  • Burning beyond this point can cause the container to overheat.

Extinguishing Your Candle

  • Use a candle snuffer when possible.

  • Avoid blowing directly into the wax to reduce soot.
